i always try a bit of brake cleaner down their throat if they dont run then its astrip down job
but i also check cam an crank sync either says yes or no
I have crank/cam sync under crank and engine rpm
I will update after I pull the front engine cover off
As v8dave said....inlet cam could be correct giving good cam/crank synch.. but the exhaust cam could be out. Cam sensor is only on the inlet cam.....I guess we'll soon find out.!!

Update guys!
Took the front off last night and all the timing is correct
I spoke to the guy I bought that car from and he hasn’t removed any gears so that should all be okay
My next thing is another mechanic friend of mine thinks it sounds like the valves are stuck on 1 or 2 of the cylinders
He wants me to pull off the rocker cover and turn each cylinder so the valves are shut and spray compressed air into the cylinder and see if the piston goes down and the valves open to let the air out
Would I diesel not start with stuck valves??
