Belt change advise please

Postby KevofCov » Sat Jul 04, 2020 10:59 am

2007 2.2ltr FWD

My Alternator belt needs swopping. I believe that it’s a ‘stretch’ type. I need to remove the Power Steering belt (also stretch type) to get access and fit it. My Haynes manual says to cut through both and throw as they are not reusable after removal.
Do I really need to cut through the Power Steering belt or can it be just put back on?

I would have thought that if the Manual says cut through and replace as theyre not reusable theres your answer.

Hmmm I agree except that this is Haynes. They do tend to follow the party line.

Quick update. Yes they do come off without the need to cut them. Didn't try it but I'm sure that they would still work if refitted

I replaced my main aux belt, but forgot to buy a new air con belt. Took it off, as its a one shot stretch belt, with no adjustment. Put it back on and its still working fine, after 13 years... infact I took it off the other day to replace the water pump. Still going strong...
