USB point install

Postby Stumble » Mon Sep 21, 2020 8:43 pm

Thinking of installing one of those double round USB points, but, where ?
BTW independent of cig sockets, need both for other things
Where do you have yours and wired into what ?
Probably wire up with a switch so permanent live ok
Thanks

You can drill the panel just below the current socket, the inner dash support moulding needs to be cut/drilled too but there's plenty room behind it.
Or if you don't use the stereo line in jack socket in the LH dash cubby then fit it there.

I have retro fitted a powered USB socket which comes on and off with ignition so I can charge my phone when I'm in the van but the socket is off when the ignition is off. Here are some details of what I fitted:

Here are some details of how I wired it in. It runs off the supply for the dashcam which had a spare USB socket. Hope it makes sense. Only 1 is powered at the moment and the other socket will be used for a USB memory stick for an aftermarket head unit that will be installed in the future. Would be very easy to wire up both to be powered though.
