P064C - Glow Plug Control Module 1 - Where to find?

Postby digitaltom » Tue Nov 17, 2020 10:10 am

Hi All,

Anyone had this code before, getting this code along with:
  • P064C - Glow Plug Control Module 1
  • P0671 - Cylinder 1 Glow Plug Circuit / Open
  • P0672 - Cylinder 2 Glow Plug Circuit / Open
  • P0673 - Cylinder 3 Glow Plug Circuit / Open
  • P0674 - Cylinder 4 Glow Plug Circuit / Open

I have a hard time believing all my glow plugs have gone, after searching P064C I can't find anything to do with it on this forum, or anywhere else. Does anyone know where to find a glow plug control module?

Answered my own question,

Right hand side of the engine bay, next to the PCM, above the fusebox. Will look into mine today and check for a bad connection, do these relays blow often?

Thanks, Tom

Is it blown, or is it water ingress into the wiring or connections :?:

Morning Altransit,

Found the module yesterday and had a look at the connections, the plugs seemed to be clipped in properly, didn't notice any water on the wiring. Do you have any advice for testing the relay further?

Turn ignition on and listen for a click?

Thanks for your help,

Tom

You could try that, or remove and fit a substitute known working one, there may be a similar one in the fuse box which can be temporarily swapped

cheers Altransit,

Here's a few images of it, not your standard relay by the looks of it so I'm not sure i'll be able to switch it over, prices on eBay for 2nd hand seem to be about £25-45!

As you say, not your standard relay, you could check to see if there's power to the relay coil connections, it may be a blown fuse feeding the relay?

This is just basic fault finding as I'm not familiar with this circuit, mine has never played up

For anyone else who stumbles along this code.

I was having starter motor issues in parallel with this and could only get the van to start using a battery on the jump points and a chassis earth.

Turns out my earth from the start motor mounting bolt to the chassis member was shot, moved it from the chassis member to the engine mounting X member bolts. Once I moved this my starter woes disappeared and so did the glow plug module code.

Makes total sense now, the glow must of had an incomplete circuit as no good earth from the engine, hence them all stating open circuit. doh!

Have a great rest of the week,
Tom
