Mk7 cranking won’t start

Postby Jay572 » Sat Feb 13, 2021 10:19 pm

Evening all

I’m brand new to this but have driven transits most of my life!! I have a mk7 transit trend model 2010 with 144k.
Pretty much a year ago to the day I went to start it and all it did was turn over and over, tried it later that day and the next day same thing just turning over. Tried it about 3 days later and it started on the button as tho nothing had happened, that weekend it did the same thing in total I think it did it 3 times over the course of about 3 weeks. Never did it again until today. Back to yesterday minus 4 out and it started on the button drove it about all day no problems, went to start it this morning and it’s just turning over and over without starting, same thing as a year ago..... weird strange and I’m lost to as what to do.... I have had the crank sensor changed, all glow plugs replaced with genuine, correct oil and oil and fuel filter changed
EGR cleaned, all in the last year but not recently.... if anyone could help please...... thanks

Apparently your symptoms are classic for ignition switch playing up, there are others
luckily they're inexpensive and if yours hasn't been done, probably best to eliminate it as a cause

As Stumble said put switch on it, RATES FORD DEALER is on ebay and your better wirh genuine switch , it's a boot £20 inc postage and usually get next day if you buy it early enough to catch their post.....
It could be a sign that timing chain or tensioner or both on way out but get your switch on first ,
Same again if you ever need to put chain on it get GENUINE parts

Search ebay for https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272377706457 which is th elisting number

or 1677531 which is the ford part number for the ignition switch
mk7 08reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD
mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

Search ebay for
Code: Select all
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272377706457
which is th elisting number

or 1677531 which is the ford part number for the ignition switch

The forum hijacks ebay listings and. if you don't allow cookies from anybody, breaks the link.
Even when I use a code block to isolate the number it still get hijacked.

Been out again and the white/see through pipe from the fuel filter to the fuel pump has air pockets in. When I turn it over I can’t see the fuel/air pockets moving. It now turns over goes to fire but doesn’t..
Thanks
