MK7 "smart" alternator... or not ?

I am fitting a BCDC battery charger to our motorhome and need to know wether it has a "smart" alternator fitted ? can somebody please advise ? Its a March 2011 build vehicle and here is a photo of the starter battery (if thats helps ? ) thanks in advance "MO"

STD charging system, only requires split charge VSR. Which can be fitted Infront of your current battery.

For a camper build I'd be tempted to retrofit the twin battery setup which is found STD on the RWD vans, which allows the rear(position your current battery is in) battery purely for starting an the front battery for running your general electrics. Like interior lights, radio, remote central locking, etc. Then fit a split charge VSR and leasure battery to runn all your other camper demands in the rear.

To retrofit the factory twin battery setup is fairly simple, you only need a couple of wires and a relay out a scrap van and activate it in the BCM config.
Sorry if this sounds immediately complicated, it is simpler than it reads.

Thanks for your comprehensive reply :wink: . Yes it turns out it is a standard alternator and I did not need the "trigger" wire after all. This is the setup I have gone with...
