Transit Mechanic Brisbane, Aus??

Hi guys,

I've done a dreaded head gasket on my 2006 red 2.4L Turbo diesel Transit. Been given two options of either rebuilding the head or buying a complete new engine? Quote 9k for a good second hand engine and instal from a local mechanic near me. He's basically said best to do a full engine as you aren't sure what the bottom end damage will be like and the bottom end might go on you in 6 months time which makes sense.

Does anyone have any experience or advice on what to do?

I live in Brisbane and am desperately looking if someone knows a someone who specialises in Transits? I'm happy to have it towed to someone who knows what they are doing. Seems very hard to find someone who knows these things well.

Firstly, is it Mk6 or Mk7..?? 2006 was the changeover year. Secondly, blown head gaskets are very, very rare on the Puma engines. What diagnostics have they done..?? What were the symptoms..?? I'm north of Brisbane, but not a Transit mechanic or specialist, I just dabble a bit..

Best advise I could give is give Mick at Transitparts at Hervey bay a call 0420927633 he will know who is doing lots of Transits from the parts they have been buying he saved my skin recently in Tasmania when I did a fuel pump he is also a great source of rare hard to find parts The Ford dealer could not source a new pump and wanted to have my pump reconditioned meaning 3 weeks off the road and we were on holiday in ours ( a motorhome ) Mick had a fully guaranteed reco pump in Tassy in 4 days

Was on the fone to him this morning. He got me the correct Output shaft seal, tailshaft centre bearing & real axle bearing and seals for my early MK6.
Shares his knowledge too.
