The head and cam carrier are supposed to be a matched pair, ie they were machined together in the factory.
It's the easiest way to get the cam bearings true and round.

It the cam carrier is cracked then very likely at least one bolt hole in the head is stretched.
You'll need a new head and cam carrier.

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

Going to take the rockercover off tomorrow and have a look see what's happened. Its only a small crack but its loosening oil a little and it still runs fine just a tad lumpy like its a tooth out of time. If the bolts haven't stretched do you think its possible I could tig it back up. Cheers

It is not the steel bolts that stretch.
It is the alloy of the head that stretches at the holes, usually found out when you cam't torque the cam carrier down.

Oh right I see. Is it not possible to re thread them. Or use an insert. Just trying to get the quickest/ best fix. I can get a complete good head for 250 but if I can repair mine an throw a new timing kit on if rather go down that route

Your valve timing will be out as thats what causes the cam carrier damage so not advisable to keep running it

As Andy says your cam timing has gone bad, that's why a valve and piston met.

You need to take take the engie out and strip it to check for damage.
You might have a cracked piston, a damaged little end bearing, a damaged big end bearing, a bent conrod.....

Hi everyone, can someone please tell me where to find the cam carrier part number on my Mk7 2.4 RWD? I know the head and cam carrier need to have matching numbers. I can see some numbers on the exhaust side, but when I search them, nothing comes up. Any help would be appreciated — thanks.nulls brawl

not quite sure as ford diagrams show cylinder head and carrier as a complete assembly, as far as part numbers go ..with 8 different part numbers ...press the part number link at top diagram ..for complete cylinder head and carrier list.

http://www.catcar.info/ford/?lang=en&l= ... AwMTArMTMz

There are guys here who have replaced the carrier only ....most purchased from ebay ..where i think there is only one type .

the guys who have done this job will answer shortly ..within a few hours .

all the best.mark

As our metalworker0 says...the Mk7 TDCi cyl head and cam carrier are a "matched pair"...you can't replace one without the other...the camshaft journal bores are "Line bored" as one piece with the head.

95% of the time if you just try to replace the top half cam carrier with a second hand one from a wreckers.... once torqued to spec it will just lock the cams up.
