what a day

Postby mick hughes » Thu Apr 15, 2021 5:14 pm

i really need some help here.firstly i tried in vain to change the vacum pump gasket. no good the 3 bolts will not move .they are all soaked in oil off the leak so there not rusted .the nuts were starting to round off so i thought i would leave it .i had got the belt off .now i cant get the belt to fit because it wont fit when the tensioner on.the belt looks way to big know .followed the diagram in the haynes book but still the same .any ideas .
now the worst part .i took the neg lead off the battery like it said in the book.and when i put my tools away in the van because i had given up i locked the door .then realised the passenger door wasnt locked so i opened the door pressed thr lock and held the door handlr and shut it .checked it .it was locked .i realised i had left my parcel on the floor of the van so i unlocked the drivers door and the handle snapped l heard a crack in the door .so now i cant get into the van as all the doors are locked .please any ideas toget me out of this nightmare .thanks mick

The fixed window in the door can be gently prized out then unlock from the inside

If you're careful, yes it will go back in.

 Open bonnet, put 12v power to jump start point, (negative to engine block) use key to operate central locking, open passenger door :)

thanks to everyone that replied i managed to get back into the van by using the jump leads under the bonnet thanks for that tip.
i didn't change the gasket as the nuts on the vacum pump were really tight and the 10mm socket i was using started to round the corners off .i tried both types of socket but no movement there was a small amount of movement but it looked like the top of the nut was twosting off .so i put the belt back on and left it .so im a bit stuck now dont know what to do

Replace the water pump and vacuum pump as an assembly...might be the cheapest option rather than munting everything.
