6sp gearbox removal

Postby tolissoff » Thu May 06, 2021 3:09 am

Hi all. Removing the gearbox to do the clutch on 2011 2.4l diesel 113/350.

Bit of a nightmare job as 'salted road use' hasn't done me any favours.
There are two forward facing bolts holding the box in place under the exhaust.
The upper of these two bolts is waaaaaaay tight, seized but also very difficult to access.
Got a power bar & socket on it, but not enough room to move the bar

Any tips on how best this bolt is removed.
Socket or spanner? From under or front (through engine bay) with extensions and universal joint?

OK. Got the bugger out.
Serial chain of spanners. Who needs that!
And then the gear change cable retainers. That is a neat trick.
For anyone who hasn't, pull the ribbed piece at the rear backwards to release the tines that hold it in the C section.

Cheers and ciao Transit lads

do you have to remove the gearbox out all the way to change the clutch or can you just pull it back to get access?

easier to remove the whole box out can be done with box back but you have to be good to line the friction plate central so the shaft goes straight in the spigot bearing if you dont the input shaft just crushes the spigot bearing and then the whole box has to come out to replace it

been their done that
