derestricting

Postby Outthere » Sun May 09, 2021 8:09 am

Hi All,

not even driven the van yet as I'm struggling with some health issues but, my amazing wife has gone to Yorkshire from Inverness to collect my 2011 Transit Welfare van), ex Network rail. She reports, just on her way back up now, that it is restricted to 62mph. I'm aware of speed limits re vans, but never thought it might have some form of restrictor fitted. How easy is this to remove or is it a reprogramme job? Is it only done for insurance purposes on their vehicles? And finally, just asking to make sure I'm not breaking any laws if I have it done?

Any advice most welcomed by a newbie to the world of Transits.

Think you'll be able to change it with Forscan with no problems, its to avoid the company's vehicles from getting hammered about the motorways with employees who don't give a fook
Motorways same speed as cars (unless your GVW is over 3500kg), Dual carriageway (60), A & B roads (50} are where the different speed limits are

Thank you for the info. Van tuner seems like a popular company to do various tunes and deletes. So might drop them a line too.

Get yourself Forscan and an ELM-327 and do it yourself....less than 20 sheckles will see you sorted.

As his lordship mentioned download Forscan to a laptop and by an Elm327 switchable wired unit from tunnelrat electronics for around £20 the elm connects van to laptop and you can sort it yourself and always handy to have Forscan if you own transit

I probably passed her on the road if it was Sunday she was in her way up?

As mentioned before forscan is your friend even if it's for checking codes etc before you get into diagnostic bills from unscrupulous workshops.
If your passing Stirling any time I have forscan and fords IDS software for this kind of thing.

There's no legal issues with you removing this on your own van

My health is proper shite at the moment so van is sat waiting a lot of conversion work. It is going to from Network Rail Welfare van to Mobile sensory room for kids with autism as the facilities are few and far between up here. Got funding for work but now have a kidney that keeps forgetting to work...great. Thank you all so much for the help and advice, will get download done today.
