Battery going flat 2007 2.2 tdci

Postby Swampy1111 » Fri May 14, 2021 11:17 am

Drove 25 miles yesterday, got there and battery very nearly flat, had a clicking noise coming from the dash on passenger side, restarted the van and clicking noise had gone, came back home and van started fine, not fully charged but more than before. Tested power at battery and had 14.5 volts on tickover, removed positive lead and it rad fine with headlights on etc, it's a brand new battery, can this seems to be when I get that clicking noise sounds like a relay that clicks about every half a second

Went out yesterday and no clicking noise, drove 20 miles and dead battery, got back home and it started again but rather slugishly so tested the battery 14.5 volts on tickover and 14.6 on around 2000 rpm, turned it off and started it again a minute after and it started no problem just like it had a new battery on it !!! Could it be a bad earth and if so which one ?

Possibly your ignition switch is playing up, very common and fairly cheap to rule out at £22 or there abouts for genuine Ford switch from RATES FORD on ebay

Ignition switch can cause all sorts of weird problems...... have you checked battery volts when engines not been running?

I did check and had around 8 volts , got fed up with it and bought a new battery but the same thing still happening, came home the other day and van barely turned over it just about managed to start, I ran it for around a minute and checked the voltage going into the battery and it was 14.5, turned the van off and back on again and it turned over fast like nothing was wrong...... go figure

You don't have twin batteries under the drivers seat do you..??

Fitted the new ignition switch, twice this week I've turned the key, got ignition lights and then nothing just dead, turned ignition off and then on again and it's started. Fingers crossed but I'll let you know how it goes

Drove 40 miles yesterday, got back home and it wouldn't start again, charge gone from battery. Thinking alternator now, only thing left but can't understand how I've got 14.5 going to battery and it's losing charge. Unless I got a dodgy meter !!!
