Exterior Rear Door Storage solutions - any ideas?

Postby Sparkyspice » Wed Jun 09, 2021 10:52 am

I have a L3 H2 17 seater minibus and I need more storage (for size, think Stanley FatMax XL toolbox or Ikea 50L Samla box) and it needs to carry about 30kg of kit. The obvious solution is to mount something on the towbar, but the rear door(s) must be an emergency exit, so that can't happen.

I thought about a Fiamma bike rack, or a ladder attached to the offside rear door and then attaching the storage box to that.

Has anyone got any other external solutions (that don't include a roof rack or roof box!)?

This minibus is used on a restricted PSV licence, so I have to be very careful not to obscure the numberplate, or rear lights. Also the bus has rear windows, which makes mounting things a bit trickier...

It's no to a roof rack... Noise, access and the requirement for quick retrieval of multiple small items means that something shorter/less hassle, is required. However it would still need a ladder, so now a ladder with multiple boxes is looking like an option...

Wheel carriers or jerry can holders that are attached via the hinges are SO expensive. I used to have Mantec Wheel carriers on my old 110 Defenders, (to save the hinges) but they weren't as expensive as the Transit alternatives. I'm guessing that is because there's a much bigger market for Land Rover pimping!

There is a much, much bigger market for the Landy stuff!

I fitted a mantec one to my old 110, then wrote it off the next day :x
