Electric folding mirrors MK7

Postby Mab58 » Wed Jun 09, 2021 6:00 pm

Is there a way to electrify the mirrors to fold them. Would like to be able to fold the mirrors, when I'm riding on a rather narrow road, to avoid hitting trees and oncoming cars and tractors.
Perhaps replace the originals with fitting mirrors from another type.

I have the same wish , leaning out to pull in the mirror is a pain in the **** , perhaps fitting the camera /interior mirror set up off an artic would be possible ?

This is on my Transit dream list. Maybe it's possible to hack together some from a type/model that does have them.

Some models of the Custom have power fold mirrors, but looking at the backplates, which are an integral part of the mirror, I don't know how you could fit these to a Mk7 door :? :(

I'm wondering if you could get power mirrors from an SUV like a Nissan X-Trail and fabricate an adaptor from steel plate to screw to the new mirror to then mount to the transit mirror holes. Finish it off with the plastic trim with the indicator over the top... adding it to my 2022 projects list. Frustrating my local breakers (GW Bridges, Crawley) doesn't allow you to walk around and pick parts as this would be the way to have a look and see what's a close enough fit.

Bugger when did Bridges stop the pick a part :(

I know they closed the bottom yard, I used to get all sorts of treasure there! I remember the FWD morris minor with the maxi engine and purple fur headlinging the best...

There was also the mk4 executive minibus there, one day it was there, the next day I went to salvage what I could and they had closed the bottom yard where it was :(

Yep. I kept calling hoping it was just a lockdown thing but they’ve ‘changed the business model’. Makes sense in a way as the pick part thing can’t have been that profitable but it was a good for the enthusiast. I’d happily drive further if there’s something similar still going.
