Struts and springs

Postby Bckgodofhell » Thu Jun 10, 2021 9:49 pm

Hi guys,
I need to replace my front struts as one has started leaking. Can anyone help with a part number to help me find ones I need or ones that will work in my van.
It's a X reg lwb rwd high top 2.4 tddi.

Thanks

Has it got a Alan key slot in the top of the piston to use a Alan key to hold it .

No its a smaller socket. I wondered about putting the tourq socket on it and a spanner on the bigger one as all my tourqs are sockets

Front memory when I did my mk6 I used a 6 mm Alan key socket on a 3/8 swing bar to hold the piston and a ring spanner on the nut to tighten it up

That's what I did sofar. But I assumed it would need to be a certain touq so it doesn't crush the wee bearing in the top ?

All the years I’ve fitted struts never used a torque wrench on that part of the job when you think about it when it’s on the van and running it’s carrying a lot of weight over tightening it with a 6 mm socket and ring spanner is going to be very difficult.

Right ok I see your point so I just need to tighten them up solid. It's not going to damage the bearings

I don’t think you can over tighten as there’s a collar on the shaft
