Suddenly my Transit won't start.

My 2.4 17 seater 2010 Transit would not start this afternoon. I had turned it off, returned from shops a few minutes later and refused to start. The AA could only get it going by spraying some easy start in to the air intake as I was cranking. The AA followed me home but within ten minutes of the van sitting it would not start again. I am replacing the fuel filter housing tomorrow and hoping for the best but do members have any experience of this at all?

An Update. I have fitted a genuine Filter head and filter and 2 new batteries yesterday.. I have also fitted an ignition switch. The van starts maybe once every ten times on the key, but with a little puff of "easy start" it starts and drives with no problems at all every time. The wires which go into the plug block of the ignition switch aren't damaged. Any advice would be helpful.
