Mk7 Ignition barrel issue

I have sprayed some wd40 into this ignition switch on my MK7 transit and stupidly snapped off the red thin tube managed to get it out but it has left a bit in the barrel steering lock is on and I can no longer put the key in to turn t to position 1 which would allow me to take out the barrel, any ideas to what to do now? many thanks all.

heat the end of the key, it will melt the plastic tube if you push it in hard ?

Unfortunately the key will not go into the barrel more than 1 cm otherwise I would have tried this but thank you .
