Mk6 2ltr duratorq di 2003 fault code P1564

Postby Andy123456 » Mon Jul 19, 2021 2:14 pm

Hello
Just managed to join this forum after finding loads of useful info from here and being unfortunate enough to own a mk6. Thanks for any help offered here and hello to all.
My van cut out, almost like it died instantly 2 weeks ago, i had the fault codes read by ford ids and it was showing various codes relating to the dreaded pump. As i was told its a high percent of the time the edc that fails so i sent this away to ecu testing and 325quid later they said there was a fault on the circuit board, repaired it and sent it back to me. I refitted, used heatshrink to rejoin and filled and fitted a new fuel filter. I used a priming bulb with injectors cracked open to bleed as much air as i could, tried a squirt of easystart and the van still wont start 2 weeks later. I have checked all earth points, fuses, relays, looked for chaffed wires over the starter and at the loom, checked the timing and still no joy. Ive just spent 12 months welding a huge amount of rust to get 12 months mot and got 4 days use before the van died. Its done 80k miles so not high really. Its driving me mad, i am returning only one fault code now with forscan and it is p1564 module pcm fip requesting reduced fuelling. I have no other codes anymore. Prior to only having this code before repair i had fip fault code, egr fault code, pcm code, etc but after replacing with a good battery, fitting repaired edc i am just left with the p1564.

Any ideas of where to look next, what could cause this code,
Im just about ready to scrap it as i dony have enough knowledge to rectify this fault but after having so much welding, new arches inner and outer, sills, steps, chassis repairs etc, too much has been done to give up.

Is there anyone knowledgable willing to have a look at it without it costing me a fortune?

Thanks

Have you checked the connection that you had to do when you had the edc back
I had a recon pump and it failed on me under warranty and it was a faulty soldered joint

Thanks for the reply, ill check ot in the morning and report back on here if i get any joy, i was thinking the connection as i used heatshrink with a lighter and thought maybe too much heat on the wires. All fault codes gone except the one and after phoning ecu testing they said its usually a connection where ive joined it or metering solenoid. I did notice on cranking there wasnt alot of pressure coming out the injectors

Checked all wiring to pump plug from pcm with a multimeter and all good, checked edc wiring to pump and also all good, can only mean the metering solenoid on the pump is shot. New pump now needed.

Anyone selling a working vp30?
I can put my edc on it so it wont need pairing up.

Thanks

I've successfully changed a fuel metering solenoid on my Mk6 (VP30 pump) for a used one off Ebay. You need the special tool to undo the locking ring but it's not that hard really.

Does it work ok though, i heard that if i use a second hand metering solenoid its 50/50 that it will work, then im struggling to find one , even second hand

The metering solenoid is probably what took out the edc in the first place, common enough problem, a new solenoid is close enough in price as an exchange pump which will come with a warranty while the solenoid won't. Get a pump from pf jones
On the sixth day God created a Sprinter on the seventh he gave it away and bought a TRANSIT

New pump is probably best although at £660 im in 2 minds wether to get one off a scrap van. Edc repair set me back £320quid already. Ive learnt my lesson now to just replace rather than repair.

Yes it was a gamble but I thought that it was worth a go at £60 instead of £600. It's worked fine for ages but it's a camper so doesn't do loads of miles. If you put a new pump in you'll have a guarantee mind you. Definitely not worth paying the price of a new solenoid as opposed to secondhand, even if you can get one.

What about a used pump from a known running van? You can code it with Forscan.

I wish i could track a pump down, tried everywhere and just my luck i cant get one. Wouldnt need coding if i use my edc on another pump i dont think.
I put an ad on here to see if anyone was selling a vp30 cheap but no replies, even one with a failed edc so i could drop mine on it.

Try this guy (Peter Remmington). He was very helpful when I did the solenoid: http://www.remmington.info/pump%20secondhand.htm

Thanks for the link, this van is driving me mad, nearly got a used working pump today for 80quid and the bloke sold it after agreeing to sell to me ten minutes earlier.
I really need my van back, its a 9 seater and the only transport to take my kids for a day out at the weekends.
Cheers :D

And transit Mick in Brownhills WS8 but make him your last place as he’s not that cheap

Thanks, i got about 2 days use from a van me and my brother had spent 12 months welding so was gutted when it died in the road.just out of curiosity, when the metering solenoid fails , what are the symptoms? Would it just run fine like mine then die under load? It died like the fuel was cut off rather than a cut out.
Thanks
