Ball joint

Postby Boltrounder » Wed Jul 21, 2021 11:28 pm

Hi all, just bought a set of ball joints for my mk7 rwd.

What the best way to replace them?

Also there is a sir clip in the box as well as a plastic washer? Where does the plastic washer live ?

I put the plastic washer between the rubber boot and the wishbone, not sure if that right or not

I didn’t see any when I removed the olds ones so didn’t bother replacing.

I bought a bearing pressed on to a hub of eBay, seems to be loads of play in the wheel now

Any ideas

Used a scaffold pipe on the breaker bar

,just took it to a garage, the bearing are w***, that’s a day of my life I will never get back. I don’t want to risk driving on dodgy bearings.

They are gonna do it for Monday at least it will all come apart nice, fitted bosch pads and discs, febi drop links and ball joints, only thing I didn’t use a known brand was bearings and they didn’t even last a day

£140 on sh*t eBay parts, never again

And that’s the problem I guess, they seem to be extremely hit or miss, but for me personally the van is not safe with the amount of play in the wheel.

I went from having a noisy wheel bearing to having a wobbly wheel
