2009 2,2l Ford transit knocking

Postby twotonehbp » Tue Jul 27, 2021 8:13 pm

Hi,

I'm looking to purchase a ford transit to do a campervan conversion. I've found a well priced transit thats only been driven 161 000km/100 041miles, but it has one small problem a noticable knock when accelerating or when "under load". I was wondering could anyone with more experience and knowledge with transits help me figure out what the problem might be. I don't own the van, but am looking to purchase it if the problem could be something fixable and not a whole engine rebuild. The owner guesses it might be the hydraulic tappets, but I think that's just a guess.I have pictures of the engine but don't think that provide any value being just overall pictures of the engine.
Thank you in advance!

Here's the link for the video with the knocking:

Certainly sounds like more than common diesel knock.

Little end bearing or possibly a damaged rocker or three maybe.

Pop the oil filter off and see if there's bronze coloured "sparkly" bits in it.

Thank you for the responses, went to check out the van but didn't buy it as the knock was even worse than in the video.
