Diff Swap

Postby Stroppymonkey » Wed Jul 28, 2021 2:35 pm

Hey all.

We have a 2012 LWB RWD 350 6-speed 125 we use as a back up van for materials carrying and heavy towing, Struggling with current diff as its the factory 3.31. Looking to fit a 5.11 diff (yes I know it will ruin the van for anything over 50mph and worsen fuel economy) to make it a much better towing vehicle. We are often on MAX trailer weight / Max Train weight / Max vehicle weight and shunting up hills and around corners so getting the correct gearing is everything.

All the 5.11 diffs I see on ebay are for for 5 speed vans, Mine is a 6-speed. Pretty sure its a straight swap as long as both axles are 6 stud but would be keen to get someone experienced to verify this before I spend out.

Cheers. Ben

6 stud would be dual wheels, I assume yours is a dual wheel machine..??

5 speed axle assy's were usually for the earlier 100ps 2.4 Euro-4 but they should be interchangeable with a 6 speed axle. I believe only the tail shaft is different as the gearboxes are slightly different lengths, not the rear axle assembly. You'll need to tell your PCM that you have changed the diff ratio too.

I’ll be interested in your old 3.31 axle when you do swap it all around
