Starter motor/solenoid

Postby chrisandmark » Fri Sep 17, 2021 2:01 pm

Hi,having issues starting van, when key is turned sometimes a click sometimes nothing,I heard you can check if starter motor or solenoid is no good by crossing wires over.something to that effect, can anyone explain how to do this, usually a great starter, also would not having the correct relay starter cause an issue, had to put a random one in not sure of the correct amperage relay, broke down last night and had to sleep in van,got towed back, started and drove fine, when I got home switched off .tried to restart it but nothing, ignition lights there but no start.any help appreciated as always, thanks.

The starter relay is ok,but noticed earlier as it wouldn't start again, got Mrs in driving seat and asked her to turn it over,as I was wriggling the earth strap on starter to body it started, but noticed a very slight flash or spark, does this mean a bad earth strap?looks ok and looks tight.what should I do next?cheers.
