MK7 Cruise Control?

Postby snowjoe » Mon Sep 20, 2021 11:13 am

We have a 55 plate LWB Mk7 minibus. I would love to fit it with cruise control if that's possible. Anyone know if it is, and if so, any recommended kits (cheap as poss!)?
thanks

“Cheap” is in the eye of the beholder.

Chapter and verse can be found here:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=141692&p=1181363&hilit=adding+cruise

I have just done this, but been fortunate because my 2013 Mk7 already had the later Body Control Module, and the wiring, so all that I needed to do was buy a steering wheel on eBay for £110, fit it, and enable the feature using Forscan (£34 for the lead, software is free).

In your case you will need to retrofit a later BCM (there’s one on eBay at present for £100), install the wiring, as well as buy the wheel.

You might find it easier to fit an after-market kit such as this:

Some older vans have the correct wiring especially if LX or GLX like ma 57plate , you might be lucky

If it's a '55' plate it's a Mk6, not a Mk7. Unless it has a personalised number plate.

Thanks everyone. Damn emails went into spam!

Yep you're right, sorry it's a 56 plate.
How do I find out if I have the necessary BCM?
Great info and links thanks. I would like to go genuine if at all possible, but will see about the BCM first.

The BCM is hiding behind the passenger glovebox.

Open the glovebox, pop the side clips in, then pull it out of the hinge fittings. Behind that you will see a fuse board, the BCM is the big unit behind that with all the plugs and relays. It will have a white sticker with the Part No on it, the sufix letters are what you need to know.

- B# is low spec.
- C# is what you want to see.

If you have things like 'leccy mirrors, posh dash, and the auxillary control stalk thingy, it's likely you have a high spec BCM and loom. The other give-away is 4 wires at the squib connector - under trim, lower top of column just under steering wheel.

Thanks Jim, we have elec mirrors, that control stalk roller thingie for average MPG, speed, etc, so maybe we are in luck. Will check when the misses gets home with the bus! (It's a minibus, not panel van). Thanks again

Reckon you'll just need the steering wheel and enabling Cruise in BCM.

What steering wheel do I need to buy please?
That other thread looks like it's for those who need to do the job in full. I am 99% sure i have the higher BCM. If so, I just need a steering wheel with cruise buttons and Forscan? (I have Forscan). I don't need any connectors or wiring doing?
thanks very much

You need one from a Transit Sport or Trend. But they're quite rare so you can use a 3M513600Cxx (where xx is unimportant) from a 2003-2007 C-Max as they're far more common. However, if using a C-Max wheel you'll also nned Forscan to reset the steering angle sensor, as the sensor is in a slightly different position.

Thanks. You're right, can't find any Sport or Trend steering wheels! Is there any difference between the transit ones and CMax ones? Any drawbacks with the Cmax ones?

I have Forscan, I installed it a while back and checked it connects (bought the cable), but didn't do much with it since. Is it easy enough to reset the steering angle thing you mentioned? And after that, it will all just work?

Thanks

No, they look and work the same.

I haven't done it with Forscan so I don't know. It's easy enough with IDS and Forscan has a friendlier menu system so I can't see it being a problem.

You'll also need to switch on the cruise control function in Forscan. If you have the correct BCM and the squib wiring in place it should then just work.

Hi, not been on here in a while
Just changed from mk6 to a low mileage 2012 mk7
Interested in doing the cruise mod
Have the correct “C” bcm
What’s the odds on the loom being correct
Can I remove the steering wheel to see without upsetting things like angle sensor
I don’t have forscan yet
