AS-Built / BCM settings for UK MK7

Postby trannyman99 » Thu Oct 21, 2021 5:18 pm

Hi, done a bit of searching but wonder if someone can help please. Sorry very new to Transits and programming them.

We have a UK MK7 Transit 2008, 2.2L Duratorq TDCi (140PS), FWD.
The BCM was giving all sorts of weird errors, clicking, cutting out, not starting etc. so have bought a second hand one to replace it.

Using Forscan with ext. licence, we were unable to backup / take a copy of the original BCM data. Just kept erroring.

Ive read dozens of posts about getting the original AS-Built data to program the new BCM with, and entered the VIN on this site. https://www.motorcraftservice.com/AsBuilt

However, the file which gets returned seems to be too small, only 1kb in size, so something isnt right.

Weve plugged the new BCM in, reset it using Forscan, and PATS coded the keys. The van runs ok, but there are lots of irritating issues - which I *think* may be due to the default BCM config being American perhaps?

- Daytime running lights are on, cant be be turned off
- Alarm doesnt work properly
- One side door wont open
- Rear demister cant be turned on
...and a few others - all settings for which seem to be missing from the Forscan BCM programming / engineer config settings.

So I wonder if someone could please point me in the right direction - how do I get the correct default BCM config so I can change the settings - is there a UK AS-Built I need to apply?

Thanks in advance.

A backup of the bcm configuration is stored in the instrument cluster and can be read from there.

mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

Thanks v8dave. But as ive already installed the new BCM, wont the new BCM config have overwritten the one in the instrument cluster - or is the one in the instrument cluster the "master" which cant be overwritten?

Do you have the correct spec BCM?

Do you get any file even when the retrieval of file from original shows errors?

Doing same job with IDS iirc it throws errors too but it's for certain items, but file is good and no problem using.

I'd be searching to find why BCM has failed before you fry your New BCM.
Check battery condition and charging voltage (not overcharging), all earth points for harness, engine and battery earth straps to chassis/body.

Thanks for your help.

Not sure why the BCM failed - had already checked all earths, changed ignition switch, 2 new batteries, alternator, 14v charging etc. The BCM was clicking badly sometimes when it wouldnt start - I think a relay or something on the PCB was failing.

I read the config, made the changes and wrote it back fine. Keys working, starts, goes lovely now.

I still have 1 minor issue - the key fob buttons no longer lock/unlock the doors. The blue fobs I have say they are 433Mhz on them I think, and have changed the setting, wrote it back, but fobs dont work. Ive actually tried ALL the frequencies you can set in the BCM but nothing seems to work.

Check the receiver in the headlining, if you open the box there's an led on the PCB lights up when it's recieving a signal from the key.
It's up around the area of the front cab light.

As far as I know the backup config in the instrument cluster has to be deliberately overwritten, it is not automatically done.

A van will happily run if the bcm and backup configs do not match, there will be no error code unless a comparative check of the two configs is run.
