Recovery bed/dropside

Postby sixtwoeight » Sat Oct 23, 2021 4:08 pm

I have a mk7 double cab with a 10ft dropside.

I am thinking if it is possible to remove the dropside and build a beavertail bed to transport my track car (about a ton). The "is it possible" part is really due to the length of the bed needed, it needs to be 14ft which is 4 ft longer than it is now - i am questioning the rear overhang and having a load quite far back behind the axle.

I know there are double cab recovery trucks but am not sure if they are based on the same chassis length as mine.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Oldschool way would be to stretch it, to give you larger wheelbase, engineers reports required!

Perfection is reached, not when there's nothing left to add, but when there's nothing left to remove.
