Mk6 2.0 TDCI 2 stroke

Postby BarnabyB » Mon Oct 25, 2021 12:55 pm

So I've had a good trawl around the forums regarding using 2stroke in a 2.0 tdci and found plenty of glowing reports from users but none mentioning using it in this engine. I only ask because I know the 2.0 tdci is a sensitive soul and I'm wondering if anyone has tried 2stroke in theirs and how it faired?
Thanks in advance and thanks for the forums and all the input. Have saved myself a fair few pennys being able to do the work myself!

I've read about it ..it does not go in the engine - you add it to the diesel - supposed to make the diesel injector pump last longer.

Sorry bad wording there...yeah I've read 200-300ml per tank can work well, nothing much about using it in 2.0 tdci's though.

According to people ..its got to be mineral, as synthetic does not mix properly with the diesel and separates out.
all the info is on YouTube ..some by red neck types of people some by clever ones.

When I had my mk666 tdci I was very dubious about putting anything other then diesel through that delicate fuel system, those Delphi pumps and injectors are a law onto themselves and don’t need any help in becoming fubar.

Yeah ok, thanks very much for the advice. Will probably avoid any 2 stroke then. What about injector cleaner though?

Are you having problems?

I periodically used to remove my injectors one at a time and clean them up with brake cleaner then put them back in, mainly to remove the carbon build up, just don’t take them apart, I did and it opened a whole world of pain

I am having a little trouble aye. Uphill in 4th or 5th sometimes gets limp mode going. Ignition off and on cancels it and all is back to normal. Had the codes checked and get an injector fault. I hear its worth checking the wiring behind the starter motor for ware....is that a good place to start? Will try giving em a wee clean too thanks.

Aye the wiring around the starter rubs through, I rerouted the wiring on my old mk6 tdci, I have some injectors here from my old van, 4 x remans about 2 years old and 4 used from a running van that I can sell you if you need some injectors

Just noticed yours is an 06 so don’t know if these injectors are compatible as the nozzles might be the shorter ones on your van.

Given that most premix 2 stroke engines are run at 60:1 minimum oil ratio (down to 100:1) for low stressed stuff, 300cc in 75L isn't adding a lot of lube to the diesel.

That said, my old Smiley TD conversion seemed to like the few litres left over 40:1 left over race bike fuel chucked in the tank - Castor based, so you can't store it once mixed in Unleaded petrols :D

My Mk5 and Mk6 Tddi both used to love it, I haven't had the nerve to try it in the TDCi Mk7

Possibly not the best thing, but have chucked some left over 30:1 Avgas/Castrol A747 in the Mk7. Was just a few litres in a nigh full tank of diesel. Can't say as I noticed any affects at tge time, and all still happy 15K miles later.
