join the club oil leaks

Postby superfordson » Mon Oct 25, 2021 2:13 pm

Hello, bought a 2012 transit 2.2 125 hp with oil leak(s).After an hour of driving oil seems to be everywhere at the bottom of the engine.
So I cleaned everything with paper towels till dry.
Left the van for a day.
All stayed dry,no dripping anymore.
Before I will dig deeper in this I have a question.
Is the oil level if engine is not turning higher than the gasket between oil sump and engine?
In other words ,may I believe there is no oil leak between sump and engine ?

Thanks.

I think other questions will follow

No, oil level will be below the sump/block split line....you can tell where the oil level sits in the sump by how far the dipstick extends into the sump. A simple measurement will show this.
