Mk7 2.4 140 hot starting problem

Postby RangaNZ » Fri Dec 03, 2021 6:06 am

Hi
Im running forescan lite and watching the cam/crank sync, is it supposed to flick from yes/no/yes/no about 5 times while cranking before it starts? I've just replaced the crank sensor with a new ford one.

Should say "yes" all the time....how's your oil pressure..??

How many miles on the engine..??

Oil pressure seems fine, it runs well once it's started. Is there a function on forescan to monitor oil pressure?
Has done 250000kms

There's no oil pressure sensor on the engine that l'm aware of apart from the normal light switch. Some of us run our own pressure sensor/gauge.
Pop the cam sensor out too and make sure it doesn't have filings/crap on it.
Low oil pressure will have an effect on the cam timing prior to starting, if the tensioner isn't extended properly, you won't get cam/crank synch and she will never start, hence the yes/no you're seeing when cranking. When cold the oil pressure will come up earlier and she will start easier....the opposite occurs when hot. I'm not saying this is your issue, but it's something to think about.

Starters can often give grief when hot too...fairly common.

Thanks Knobby, sounds interesting, did you fit a tee on the oil pressure switch for your sensor/gauge?

The starter seems to crank at the same speed hot or cold

Yep, just fit a "T" with a sensor and gauge, simple.
