Fuel pump leak

Postby Anothertransit12 » Tue Dec 14, 2021 10:32 pm

Hello people. My 2011 2.4 devoloped a major fuel leak whilst driving and came to a stop. It appears to be leaking from the top head of the fuel pump. Did any of you take off the pump head to repair seals or is this a no go area best left to diesel injection specialists? If you did what bits did you have to remove to gain access

Mk7 TDCi pumps are usually quite robust and rarely give trouble.

Are you able to take a photo of the offending area..??

Thank you my Lord. See attached . Red arrow is pointing to where the top head joins. There is a steady flow after 4 seconds of cranking. It looks like it comes from the brass fitting but that is just the route it flows down on.

Both pictures are taken from underneath the engine

Last photo gives it away...leaking from the fuel temp sensor thread methinks.

There's no O-ring shown so it might pay to pop it out and reseal with loctite 515 hydraulic sealer or similar.

I might run it out and reseal it as it is not a big job but it seems to be very wet on top of the cast steel pump head (which is higher up ) after cranking. It looks like it is just running down the pump and dripping at the temp sensor .Will update you when i get time to look at it. Thanks

If it is coming from above the switch, you may need to get in contact with a diesel specialist as the cover O-rings etc aren't sold separately by Ford unless they sell a repair kit.. :?:

Hi. I have a similar issue. Have an intermitent fuel leak that drips from the under side of the fuel pump and collects on top of the gear box.Pretty sure its coming from ontop of the fuel pump and maybe the fuel lines are leaking very slightly. Hard to tell for sure. Did you get sorted?

Cheers

Thanks for all the comments. It turned out that the steel injector pipe on the pump had a crack in it under the nut. A new very expensive pipe from ford solved the problem .
