condensation

Postby ray1965 » Mon Jan 17, 2022 1:34 pm

Hi Guys
i have a 2012 SWB panel van, fitted with a genuine ford carpeted bulkhead, the bulkhead has vents at the bottom on each side to allow air to the cab, the main (cargo area) floor, side walls and rear doors are lined with ply, which imho is probably a tad thick, but it was all fitted new before i bought it

the problem im having is condensation, well i assume its condensation, on the inside of the roof of the van, so bad that its dripping quite badly onto the wooden floor, on really cold mornings its ice

i need to get it sorted, as i want to fit a rear seat and carpet, but last thing i want is a saturated seat carpet and wood floor

has anyone else had this problem, and if so, what did you do, if anything to sort it out

my mk6 used to get a small amount in winter, but the doors were so bent, the seals couldnt seal, that it got good airflow through the back while driving, so assume that used to dry it out

any help appreciated

Happens with them all
Line the roof with insulation either stick on or use spray glue
You'll find what you need on ebay
Or fit a roof Vent of some sort,
I just insulated mine and have no condensation

Get it every year when the weather turns cold. I just dry it off with blue roll or a towel. Doesn’t help I’m a plasterer and most of my mixing gear is perpetually wet/damp.

It means that there’s a sh*t load of info on it if you bother to do a search.

I started the sarcasm

What I find odd is that it would be quicker to search than it is to start a new thread. So it’s not laziness, it must be something else…

Only thing with search is that like Google you get 28,857,764 answers but 28,857,762 dont answer your question ,

If you ignore the search results that point to this thread, the second answer is spot on. This forum may have its faults, but the search function is extremely good.

Not good for rust though having moisture sitting everywhere :?
IMHO the best way to deal with it is let it out, i have a roof vent and 2 extractor fans in my ambulance and although i rarely have the fans running they are constantly open and allowing warm moist air out and TBH the 3.5KW heater i have is so bloody hot i have to have them open or i fooking roast ! low down fresh air intakes help a lot

ok, my van isnt used as a work van, its my daily driver, as i prefer a van over a car, only occasionally does it get used as a van to move stuff for home and/or my hobby, and not being a work van its quite tidy, and i dont want it looking pikey, but looking more of a van/car cross
so having inherited 5 grandchildren and neither parent drive, im going to put a removable triple seat from a tourneo in the back, the one that goes between the arches, and a carpet, but theres little point till i sort out the condensation issue, as both would be saturated in no time

so from your suggestions, im going along these lines, pls say if you think any of this wont work

line the main roof panels with self adhesive closed cell foam, i was thinking of bitumen sound deadening pads, but they are a tad thin
then fit the roof/ceiling panels from a tourneo, and cover the aircon holes with speaker grills, this will still allow for a little air flow between the two

then if they make one, as i havnt looked yet, install a 12volt electric fan heater

and with reference to another thread, this is why i wanted the glass window for the bulkhead, so in the back could be seen when people are in there

I thought for a moment that you were going to put the extra seats behind the bulkhead

There’s a bit of info here too https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... -in-my-van
