MK7 Instrument Cluster bulbs

Postby PWRR-TRANSIT » Fri Jan 21, 2022 1:46 pm

Hi guys.

Can you replace the bulbs in the cluster individually? If i take the cluster out will i be able to access each bulb and replace them?

Thanks.

Yes you can but they are smd's, soldered to the circuit board.

Is it easy enough to pull one out and re-solder one back in?

Just abit of patience. The cluster needs to be dismantled and needles taken off but it is doable.
I change the colour of the leds and repair damaged clocks Image

So I’ve just started to do this (change the green LEDS to blue ones)

Got one side done and put them back together to check I was dining things right!

And I’ve lost my green square readings

Have I put it back together wrong or have I ballsed it up and now need a new set of clocks?

Any help will be appreciated

Thanks

Each led has to go a particular way round or it won't work, can cause other issues also

Sorry mate I’ve not explained myself properly.

I’ve attached a wee video to show what I mean.

I’ve lost my trip counter fuel remaining text

Hope that makes better sense

Thanks for that. I thought i replied but maybe i didn't press submit.....I actually just want to remove the bulb for the low disc warning because it's constantly on even though the brakes are all new. It's due an MOT next month and i'd rather just take the bulb out temporarily than pay someone to find and replace a wiring fault. Don't suppose you can show exactly on the back of the board the bit i need to remove/un solder?

There's actually 2 wires you can join to put light out, I can't remember what ones but LOOT may know off hand if you give him a shout

Thanks for that mate. Where is this located though? No other side effects from doing this?
