Mk7 Transit 140 sport 6 speed FWD clutch and flywheel fault

Postby HGFab » Sun Jan 23, 2022 6:26 pm

Hello,I have a Mk7 140 Transit sport, 60 plate with 80,000 miles on the clock. The van is used for call outs/site work and is loaded to about 2.5tons all the time but doesnt do a huge amount of miles. Last year there was a rattling/clattering noise coming from it which the garage said was the flywheel as it disappeared when the clutch was pushed in. I had the clutch and flywheel done and gearbox reconditioned as the gearbox oil was silver when they changed it but after having the van back for hardly a week the slave cylinder then burst. The garage replaced that and got it all back together and after 3 months of having the van back the same rattling/clattering noise is back when the clutch is out. There was an ever so slight rattling noise when clutch was out when i first got the van back and questioned the garage about it but since then the noise has just gotten louder and when the engine is cold gear selection is difficult. Can anyone help with this problem. Just looking for some advice whether the garage hasnt done it properly or whether there is another problem causing the flywheel to fail. Thanks in advance.

I was going to say that maybe the rattle is coming from somewhere else, but as you say that gear selection can be difficult when cold, that points fairly firmly back to a clutch/flywheel/gearbox problem :(
