Headlight Help (motor removal)

Postby DJ Sense » Sun Nov 04, 2007 1:33 pm

Hi, (i've also posted this in technical, but as this is for MK6 / & trannies i thought i'd stick it in here as well!, Hope that's ok) I have just removed my old headlight (Cracked my fault, Mcdonalds drive through, tight turn, bl**dy white post  ) anyway, got it off fine, but can't see how to remove the motor(adjuster) so i can put it on the new one :?: , also the new one has in the same place a plastic key which is there i guess to stop the reflector bashing about whilst in transit (so many puns, but no time!) prior to fitting :?: :!:

The motors are a pig to get out  Here goes; Unlock the motor by turning it anti-clockwise untill it's horizontal while simultainously lifting the reflector under the headlamp bulb holder, then push the motor to disconnect the shaft from the bracket. It does work but can take some time :?

The 'plastic key' is there inplace of a dipping light motor so just remove it and replace it with the motor from your old light :D

 A little advice, you need to be quite forceful to get it out and when you put it into the new light make sure that the shaft is fully home in the bracket :D (test before you bolt it all back in) :P

just had a "look" at the shaft from the motor, it goes into a ball in the light that fits a socket, is this what i have to seperate or is it the other (motor) end?

You need to seperate the 'ball' from the retaining bracket which is attached to the reflector

They are just fully chromed headlights. some transits had them factory fit whilsed others had the black trimed ones.

I got them on e-bay £45 the pair 8) Lucky find i guess. Most people are looking for £45-£60 for one :x

I have changed to electric headlight leveling motor myself on Ford Transit T350 Rear drive and broke the bracket of the old headlamp in the process.
Well everything works with the new headlamp (I changed headlamp) but there is something I definitely did not do and that is to fit the old leveling motor into that bulb hole because it was way too high. Should I unscrew and give it another go? I think I will break the braket that holds the motor now if I push more.
There was a scew for hte fixing which I needed to remove when fitting in the old motor as I see you guys now. Can I remove the old motor's plastic one and put in a screw?
Edit: Is you doubth how my motor looks like it is like this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/c/1609855478 . Plastic seems too short. The headlights I bought were these:

2001 Ford Transit headlight level motor removal. I thought I'd post this as I had a great deal of trouble trying to remove and refit a new motor. The most important point is to make sure the spindle of the motor is extended to its greatest length or else you won't be able to get it out or the new one in. It wasn't until after a great deal of trial and error that i realised this. Also, when removing or installing the motor it's not a straight in line pull out or push in. You have to angle it slightly so the "ball" at the top of the motor shaft slides a few mm to one side and out of the rebated channel in which it sits. It's not easy to know exactly which was to angle it when removing but a close inspection before installing a new motor should become evident.
