New EGR

Postby Hallii » Tue May 17, 2022 12:37 pm

I have just got back from France, the EML has been on again ( I should have replaced the EGR the first time) Its gone off now and has stayed off. I have ordered a new one for £36 off ebay. Will I live to regret it? Will it fail after 100 miles? How much is an egr from the main dealers? I was quoted over £400 in France ( not fitted!).

I'd say it's worth a bash at £36, you might be lucky  ??

I've had a cheap fleabay one on for 5 years and 80k km and it still works fine.....I do have a catch can fitted though, so most of the crud which normally goes through the inlet system is caught. Actually had a poke around doing some maintenance last weekend and it's surprisingly clean in the intercooler, boost pipes and inlet manifold.

I might be lucky then, anyway at that orice I can afford to risk it, my plan is to clean the old one and carry it as a spare :-) Geoff

I'm looking at buying a new one. A local repuatable parts shop is selling one made by NRF for £200, while ebay has some for £35.

Do NRF make quality parts? Is it worth the price difference?

I fitted my cheapo EGR and it sems to work like it should, time will tell! I want to clean the old one so I dismantled it, the gears are like new, in fact it all looks quite good. Question:- what do we think of EGR cleaner spray? I don't like spraying things into the air intake so I won't, but will the EGR cleaners work "off the vehicle" ? Geoff
