Cylinderhead 2.0 tdci same as Mondeo?

Postby Dino242 » Fri May 20, 2022 8:06 pm

Dear Forum,

My name is Sven, I am living in Germany, and we have a RV based on a Transit from 2006 with the 2.0 tdci Duratorq engine.

Since the Turbo made whistling noise and I also had the feeling that the engine power is not constant and feels low, we decided to change the turbo.

Unfortunately 2 bolts were cracked and in the end it was not possible to repair.

Outcome: We need a new cylinder head.

Now my question: our cylinderhead has the following number: 3C1Q6090 BA.

Can we also use 2.0 tdci cylinderheads from Mondeo? How can I identify which cylinder heads are identical?

It would be really great to her from you.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Kind regards, Sven

Until June 30, 2003 the Mondeo had "long" injectors, same as the Transit 2.0tdci. Then "short" injectors were installed in Mondeo, so the cylinder head was also changed. On the other hand, the Transit remained with "long" injectors until the end of the production of this model in 2006.

So it would be best to buy a Mondeo head from the model before 30/06/2003, because Transit injectors can be used. But it is possible to install a new cylinder head with "short" injectors, but you need to write down their codes. There are some problems here, because the injectors used already have corrected codes that do not correspond to those written on their body. There will be no such problems if injectors with new codes or brand new injectors are installed.
Transit 2.0 tdci with "short" injectors works properly without any problems.

Remember that on a Duratorq engine, the cylinder head and the camshaft mounting frame are one non-interchangeable part with one number. They are processed together in the factory and then they are always together. A frame from a different head most often quickly causes big trouble and the need to re-repair the engine.

You should have the Transit engine head number 1701870 (3C1Q-6C032-BB). The number you entered is sometimes online as a 2.0 tdci cylinder head, but not in Ford catalogs. I don't know what's going on here.
