I finally managed to get back on this and nothing would move , won't budge so am I trying to do the correct thing? I used this to try and turn where the groves are and it quite a good fit

Can you see up to where it latches onto the bonnet?

If you can maybe it’s worth undoing the 2 10mm (I think) bolts thus detaching the part from the bonnet allowing you to open it, if that makes sense.

The other option is to cut through the entire thing with an angle grinder (being careful of the rad) if your doing away with it anyway you maybe able to access the inner parts to release the latch.

so, ive got back to this (finally) and the square plate in the pic is actually the front of the lock

van lock1.png

it seems there may be more than one sort of lock

this one

van lock two.jpg

and this one with just a square lock body on the front

van lock 3.jpg

i had the latter, this on ebay shows the two, one with a front fitting and one with just a square
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185237814864 ... SwwrRhz0G3

so mine was just the square which is held in place with a bolt that goes through the u shaped cutouts in the top. judging by the damage someone had already tried to get to the bolt, and although i could see and feel the bolt and could get to it with a spanner i decided against trying to get it out as even if i undone it i still couldn't get to punch it out

so i used a HSCO drill bit through the center, 9mm , went through like butter. being careful with progress it just touched the bit on the back that turns (the bit the lock turns in the catch) and the bonnet popped up. stopped drilling and in with a screw driver to turn clockwise and it was released
