Ok, so if I drill through the center of the round part what will I find and what can I do ....... I appreciate the help a lot ... I'm just a bit confused as that round part don't look deep enough for a key or barrel

That's what I though from looking at the pictures but I can't see anything like that just the bar going across, that small plate (which looks like it has cut marks in) and that round part which looks like it's been cut or split and that isn't very deep. Can't feel anything behind the bar going horizontally

you may be able to cut just above the round part and extract the barrel that way, there will just be alot of metal in the way for security reasons other than that im not sure as i have a mk7 and they may be a bit different

Your lock has already been drilled out and butchered, put something flat in the grooves that have been made and turn it to the left to pop the bonnet then to the right and lift the bonnet.

Once your in remove the latch off the bonnet and throw it at some undesirable type, replace it with bonnet pins and you’ll never have that problem again, I fitted the non lockable ones on my old van.

Ok, great I will have a go. So am I just trying to turn the round bit or the flat plate as well? The pins are a great idea and I think I will go for the non locking as well (and in that colour)

Tbh I can’t remember if the plate turns as well, I fitted the non locking pins to my old mk6, so much easier then messing with the key lock.

Small bit of drilling required,

I totally agree, I have never had a vehicle where you use a key to open the bonnet... Ive had electronic release and pull cable and under bonnet but never a key .

Will have a look and see what moves. Will order some bonnet pins

How did you get on opening the bonnet?

I miss that van so much, I could write a book on the stress it caused me

I'm hoping your thread will answer a lot of my questions.

Re the bonnet.... Thanks for asking (and your advice)

As it was so rusted I gave it a good soaking with WD but then had to go to the mainland unexpectedly. It feels like it's only the round bit that turns, m hoping to get back to the island tonight or tomorrow and it's my first job.

Are those bonnet clips you recommended easy to fit? I've ordered them

You off the coast of Scotland?

Yes they are very simple to fit, I would advise getting some good Milwaukee hss drill bits, anyhow, firstly work out where you want the pins on the slam panel and drill the holes, it’s only glass fibre so won’t take much to get through, once you fit the pins put a blob of Vaseline or similar on top of the pits and lower the bonnet onto them thus transferring the Vaseline to the bonnet so you know where to drill through, once the holes are made you can close the bonnet and fit the slidey bits, I used self tapping screws but you can use rivets.

My thread may cause more confusion as my old 666 tdci was evil and wanted to kill me, oh how I miss that van

"old 666 was evil" made me laugh.

Thanks for the advice, I have some good quality drill bits (I'm a tool magpie) so should be ok
