Welding

Postby Droid581 » Sat May 21, 2022 3:28 pm

Ok so here is my rotten wheel arch.. I have cut out the inner splash guard because it had seen better days and have bough a replacement wheel arch but here is my question..

If you look at the picture you can see that the part the inner splash guard attaches to needs replacing also.. so my question is (finally) instead of buying the splash guard panel with the ‘lip’ could I simply weld in one large plate right the way across to the arch so it’s all one piece and do away with the lip where the inner arch and splash guard join?

I would rather replace one big piece rather than loads of little patch repairs..

Will the missing lip be an mot issue or does it not really matter?

Regards.

Cut the rot out and weld a complete piece across if that’s easier for you, as long as it’s welded up and not flapping about ect it won’t be an issue at mot time.

Brilliant that’s good to hear, yes it would be much easier for me to weld in a large plate than try to re create that lip with limited bending shrinking tools & it would also save me the cost of the splash guard/s at £75 a side.
