Low MPG

Postby 1888 » Tue May 24, 2022 8:55 am

Couple of weeks ago i changed the timing chain and put in a recon pump. Went away this weekend and did 560 mile round trip what cost be about £260 at say an average of £1.85 a litre. My fag packet calculation has that at about 18mpg.
This is a 90BHP Mk6 mapped to 120. Timing looked to be right and all pins in place. Any slack in the chain was to the right before adding the tensioner so why is this so rubbish. My last van with same engine i could get 35mpg sitting at 65mph. I spent this weekend at 65/70 so was expecting around 30mpg.
No obvious leaks. Has a slight gas leak at EGR pipe what goes round back of engine but fixed that before coming home so what next, Injectors???

Sorry for late answer i have been away. It did 22mpg. Pump was done and chain was slack hence replacing them. Its a coachsmith bus made from alloy and fiberglass. Plated at 4.2 tonne but i would be surprised if its 2.7T TBH. Reason being a standard bus in steel i had was 3.5T plated but seats out and converted it was only 2.2 on the bridge.
