Failed to start rumble sound

Postby jcksnhk » Fri Jun 17, 2022 3:17 am

Hi I’m new here, I have a 2009 ford transit 2.4 103kw manual. My issue is sometimes when I try to start it (When the engines already hot) the engine does this lengthy rumble thing and fails to start. I usually have to wait 5-10 minutes (maybe to let something cool down?) and try again, which it doesn’t rumble and does indeed start once I have waited. See video for the sound. Any ideas what it could be?

Don't know about the video ..you have it in a permanent loop format ..not sure how many starts you made there as the video makes it look like it goes on forever - are you still at it now :)

could be a fuel delivery issue?
have you plugged it in to see if any dtc's have been logged?
all your fluids at a good level oil/coolant?
may be a poorly starter motor that doesn't like the heat.
is that rust spot new?

Yeah it’s a loop, YouTube automatically loops it. I tried 3 times and it did the same heavy rumble and didn’t start, then when I waited 8 minutes it did start without the rumble.

Thanks for the reply’s, fluids are all good, the starter seems fine, i might have to take it in to get plugged in and checked.

Best off getting Forscan, an ELM-327 and checking for fault codes yourself, less than 20 quid will see you sorted....can often cost upwards of 75 quid just to plug in at a garage, let alone fix anything.

Could be your dual mass flywheel rattling and your crank sensor and cam aren't syncing then flywheel jams in correct position enough to sync ...... like Lord knobby mentioned switchable elm327 and free download of Forscan
much cheapness
