Key stuck in the ignition *help*

Postby TXtransit » Wed Aug 10, 2022 1:47 pm

Hey all! I’ve got a 2019 transit cargo with the key stuck in the ignition. I am trying to remove the cylinder to replace it but can’t find a release on this thing. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

The only time that it has happened to me, I had to drill out the seized key barrel because you can only normally release it by turning the key :(
Unless key barrel technology has moved on since then, I would guess that you'll have to do the same :?

im only taking a wild guess here now, but look on flea bay at both ignition barrels and steering columns

remove the transponder and theres a round hole, that seems to correspond with a plunger on the barrel

try pressing the plunger from thru the hole

older ignition barrels worked very similar, but because there wasnt any fancy electronics, you had to drill the casing at a set point and then push the spring with the drill bit

it probably wont come out easy, and maybe being a broken key you may even need to drill out that pluger

but all the new and old that have been removed on e bay, have that plunger and its undamaged

that would be my starting point
