Crank pulley

Postby Hallii » Thu Aug 11, 2022 6:27 pm

200 miles round trip, stopped at the local chippy and when starting up the crank pulley fell off. Picked the pulley up and called Green Flag flat back truck arrived in 75 mins and at the local garage 30 mins later. They fixed it with a new pulley in under an hour. Back home in time for tea :-) My wallet is a bit lighter though. :( Ford, if you read this, the rubber pulley is a rubbish idea.

Happened to me several years ago too, but luckily l was in my own driveway when it fell off, and it munted the serpentine belt too.

They have the rubber damper to help with crankshaft torsional vibration, likewise with the dual mass flywheel.. There is a solid crank pulley which can be fitted l believe, some have even welded them together.

Luckily the 2.4 only has 1 belt unlike the FWD's.

whilst at the auto electrician yesterday having my lack of dipped headlights and no heater blower sorted my crankshaft pulley Fell Off, the bloke was very helpful ordered me a new pulley and got the lads at the tyre shop next door to remove the old one and fit the new one,

I can thank them enough, unbelievable service from ABC Auto Electrics and Bennies Tyre Service both at Hereford.

another one of those stupid components they let the van down, the newer vans become the worse they seem to make em !!!

just had a thought about this pulley!!

I also have Custom van 2.2 fwd 2014 so will this engine have the same stupid rubber bossed pulley!!

what are the problems with having the old one welded up instead of relying on the rubber to eventually give way and let you down !!

Old engines did not have a cushion drive on the crankshaft pulley they also didn't have a serpentine belt.
Likely the cushion is to reduce the shock on the belt when coming onto load. Alternators have a similar device clutch, decoupler, freewheel pulley. Yonks ago no fancy stuff.

Get an old Cummins, Perkins, Lister at which a 7lb sledge when slung with good aim could but dent the rocker box. Those of some stupidity got the bounce of the 7 lb on their head.

Yes it will have one, a solid one can be fitted but they're not genuine Ford. They're used as a torsional vibration damper, takes the shocks etc away from the crankshaft.
