Snapped The Tensioner

Postby enjoythistripp » Tue Aug 16, 2022 8:30 am

Ok so van was seized after three years idle. Followed advice to remove drive belt.

Soon as I put any pressure on the bar the groove shattered. Ended up cutting belt and engine ran sweet first turn.

Had a good search but can't find exact thread. Is the tensioner just unbolt and replace? Or do I need to do timing as well?

Thanks in advance.

Assuming Mk7 RWD..?? The belt is "NOT" a timing belt, it just drives the engine accessories, water pump, power steering, alternator, air conditioning. Mk6/7 Transits have a timing chain.

On the RWD's the tensioner assembly is held on with a single bolt.

Mk7 2.4 RWD here..:

Sorry MK7 t350 XLWB Luton. Think. It's fwd. Looking at that diagram it's not the tensioner itself, it's the part that you fit the 1/2 inch bar into.

A Luton won't/cannot be FWD, does it have twin rear wheels..??

The part with the 1/2" drive square "is" the tensioner, the pulley is separately replaceable.

Correct, red oops. I know a Mk5 like the back of my hand but the 7 is an unknown beast. Tensioner, alternator and belt £330. Ouch.

Then to try and find the oil flow pouring out the engine :(
