Timing chain cover gasket

Postby ezimoto » Wed Aug 17, 2022 8:18 am

Hi guys
May have been asked before but I didn't find it.
Has anyone tried using the gasket supplied with pattern timing chain covers rather than using sealant?
I have one to do soon and was tempted to give it a go, would certainly make it easier for the next person who had to remove cover for any reason.
Look forward to your thoughts.

Never used a gasket...even when it was supplied with the new cover. Always used sealant and never had an issue. Ford themselves use sealant.

Thanks for the reply.
I've never had a problem with sealant either but it would be nice for the next person to be able to reuse the cover rather than bend it because the sealant sticks so well.
Was just curious if anyone had tried the gasket?

The covers are cheap as chips to buy...How often do you plan to remove the timing cover..?? My neighbor has a 2000 Mk6 Transit and it's never had the timing cover off. Only has 120k km on it though.
