just general remarks .
i would think the rubber one would be best ..but only if the rubber is a bright colour like blue or green ..this usually signifies that it's a superior rubber and well up to lasting for long periods of time.

black could be any cheap rubber..but coloured usually means that its quality.

all the best.mark

My "spin-on" oil filter type oil cooler has the rubber gasket....works fine and no leaks.

They're only done up to 19nm, (~14lb-ft), I believe....just a common sense torque will do.

Probably residual oil from the original cooler leak...they're a mongrel to get clean, lots of flushing is required. I have used "front loading" liquid washing machine detergent with good results, it doesn't foam up as much as normal detergents.

There's no other oil/coolant interfaces other than the oil cooler or head gaskets areas. A cracked head is a possibility but you'd probably have other symptoms as well other than just oil in the coolant.

They are usually right next and part of the oil filter unit.
Oval aluminium shaped heat exchanger thing ..that uses the vans water coolant to cool the oil
