Custom Alloys on my Mk7 85 T280s Fwd

Postby johnjwhelan » Tue Nov 22, 2022 6:35 pm

I've just got a set of brand new 2021/2022 Transit Custom alloys and tyres - the guy I got them from replaced them as soon as he got his new van.

I was expecting to be able to just swap them over onto my Mk7 85 T280s Fwd, but the new locking nuts are closed on the end, so they don't tighten enough (my hub bolts are too long).

It looks like I'm going to need wheel spacers but I don't know what size, or if there's an alternative.

Any advice, greatly appreciated.

Just get nuts that aren't closed on the ends...or extended length closed nuts...

Thanks for the suggestion - I hadn't even considered extended length nuts - much more straightforward than hub spacers. Cheers!

I take it you didn't use the custom nuts on your mk7 as threads are different

Mk7 threads are not the same as Custom and Custom wheels need a tapered seat on the nuts (Mk7 are flat). You need a complete set of new nuts. They are available on Ebay, I can't remember the relevant thread sizes.

I got a set of extended length nuts from eBay, worked a treat. Thanks.
