I get the same engine malfunction light on cold mornings and tend to ignore it. My previous van was a Vauxhall Vivaro which always seemed to have one or more warning lights on, so got used to ignoring them. Felt a bit embarrassed when I visited the dealer one day and there was hardly any oil in the engine

Mine has done it once so far in 13,000 miles, must admit I never wait for the glow plug light to go out, never did on either of my Mk6 vans either, it will probably come back & bite me in the ass now.

You could well be right, you would not believe the toys I have in my Mk7 GLX, just added HID Headlamp bulbs, every one should do that little upgrade, so easy my Dog could have done it.

I have a HIDS4U kit that I took out of my MK6 if anyone's interested.

Oh and my MK7 does the 'engine malfunction' thing when the temp is near freezing.

mine does the same, was told it was the"brake fluid reservoir cap" ,only trouble was after brooklyn ford spent 4 1/2 days changing it,after having to drill/break the locking wheelnuts off because they couldnt supply me with a locknut key,it still does it,its booked back in now for a third and final go.the "man"said to ignore it but when the engine lets go i wonder which engine malfunction light i should have checked,

Hi All,
Just joined today and what a great place for info, I have a T260 130bhp GLX in Tonic on a 56 plate.Bought for £13k in Nov06 with 3500 miles from local dealer (ex-demo)
First of all what a brilliant van loved it like one of my kids but now if Ford don't sort out its problem its getting jammed throttle and going through the showroom doors.
At 2 months old started getting red light, beep, engine malfunction so off to dealer worried I had bust it, got the usual apologies and was told nothing wrong but fault codes found and reset, phew worry over, ha ha ha really. Twelve months later on and after maybe doing this once or twice a week it has now manifested into 30+ times a day, I have to just touch the throttle and accelerate slower than a taxi driver to finally get upto 70mph whilst watching every other van ever made come flying past me and then without pressing the throttle any more or less comes that goddam beep from the dash and the people driving behind who want to know why I lifted on a straight road for nothing bloody obvious.
Could go on all night about this but to cut a long story short its been back into Ford about 10 times the latest being today when with great fanfare they announced they knew what was wrong and fitted an apparently rare at this time EGR valve, well, nice warm engine approach the road with much trepidation, first gear, second gear and BEEP,RED LIGHT,NO POWER,ENGINE MALFUNCTION!!!!! 100 yards off the Dealer forecourt, normal engine restart and a very short trip back to the dealer who had the most amazed look on his face and has now promised to speak to Ford Technical on monday. Starting to think my old 230,000 mile Courier van could come back.
