Postby trannyfreak » Sun Jan 29, 2023 1:13 pm

Hi all, I've just brought a mk7 2013, 2.2 125 transit today and it's stuck in limp mode, does about 10mph, the owner said it went like that in October and he ain't used it since, Its throwing up some codes I'll attach a pic of the codes, any ideas? Many thanks

The 2643 codes relate to the DPF being overloaded, needing a regen.
The 242 code relates to an exhaust gas temp sensor, which,if faulty is probably the cause of it not doing regens and hence the soot loads increasing till it’s in limp/reduced power.

Ok brilliant, I've just looked underneath and spotted a sensor cable snapped in half, what is this sensor called? Will this trigger a limp mode? Many thanks

Yes,
That’s 1 of the 3 exhaust gas temp sensors.
Will cause the dtc, then cause the soot loads and limp.
Looks like you have a length of wire missing,so it’s probably been eaten by rodents/animals,they are attracted to the materials used in the wiring insulation,

You need to fix the sensor first,
But with the dpf soot load codes,it will almost certainly need a static regen of the DPF too afterwards.
It’s been driven to the point now with a fault, that the soot loads are too high for it to regen by itself safely.

Ok mate buy the 2 sensors then? They look to be around the £50 each mark on ebay :) would it be worth buying another second hand dpf with the sensors? Many thanks

No and no,

Replace the 1 damaged sensor,
If you don’t have the diagnostic equipment to do a static regen, find someone who has,try a static regen and go from there.
You won’t know until that’s tried,if there are any other faults.

Do not replace the dpf with a new or used one, you’ll end up with more problems than you have now and it’s expensive and unnecessary.

In bigger sh*t now as the nut part has sheared off the sensor leaving the threaded part still in side the dpf along with the sensor :(

Gut it and get it mapped out...they're more trouble than they're worth. Whoever thought these things would be good for the environment is smoking something really good.

The amount of crap that comes out of them during a regen is ridiculous.

Cut the innards out of it an map the whole thing out. Trouble with that is if you get an anal inspector.

Ah OK, could I not just leave the innards still in but still get it mapped out, or is that defeating the object?

It will eventually block up if the regens aren't completed successfully.
