tachometer mk6 2.4 tddi

Postby Cedlef » Wed Feb 01, 2023 6:09 pm

Hello, Can anyone tell me wich sensor activates the tachometer please ?
My tachometer's erratic : sometimes it doesn't works, sometimes the needle fluctuates unexpectedly and sometimes works good.

Crankshaft sensor, lives at the back drivers side of the block on the gearbox split line, if you look from under the bonnet it's behind the exhaust manifold. If it didn't work the engine wouldn't start, or would start but stop after a couple of seconds.

You may have a poorly clock connection too.

Hello Lord Knobrot, thanks you for your answer. I've already changed the crankshaft sensor and I've cleaned the tachometer connections and the instrument console connections. I don't know how to control the tachometer... May be it's a grounding problem ?

If the engine starts and runs, it won't be the sensor.

if you take out the instrument cluster, take it apart down to the circuit board, not even a screwdriver is needed, on the back of the board , where the wiring connector goes in , there are a pile of soldered connectors, either resolder them, or whats always worked for me is just put a hot soldering iron on the old solders, it slightly melts the old solder and should work. and take a picture of where the needles rest to put them back on in the correct place.
