Mk6 not the usual central locking problem

Postby thomo23 » Wed Apr 26, 2023 3:12 pm

Hello, i would appreciate any help on this matter and if you’re in the midlands i’ll come and buy you a pint!

So for some strange reason when ever i return to the van its already unlocked? Locks perfectly fine, all doors. Interior lights go out as they should also. So i started locking it both ways (single and deadlock) then waiting next to it. It then unlocks itself for no reason. Sometimes it takes 10-20secs and sometimes it can be minutes even hours.

I’ve checked the side door contacts and there is no sign or wear, rust, corrosion or damage on the wiring loom of rear off side door either.

I’ve trawled through the posts here and nearly all the time the problem is van thinks there is a door open and unlocks itself immediately, this is not happening in my case though.

Thanks for reading and any info/advice would be great!

You probably have a very "intermittent" lock mechanism, might depend on temperature, whether the van is parked on a slope which can actually "twist" the chassis slightly causing the locks or sliding door contacts to indicate "open".

sounds like most VW products i get to see, temp dependant loose solder joints possably ?
i use a hair dryer to diagnose those (honest) i warm up each lock independantly and see which one changes as i heat it up

I realise this is an old post, but replicates my problem. Mk6 2.4 TDCi RWD camper T330 2006.

Interior lights and locking have been working normally. Last night I was out and all still working correctly. However, by the time I got back into the van I was freezing and drove home (about 45 mins) with the heater on while I thawed. Van was hot inside and when I opened the door the interior lights came on but then would not go out. I had to manually turn them off. Then when I locked the van on the fob, the doors locked but second press did not flash the indicators. It was late, so I went to bed. This morning I found the van unlocked.

Now when I try it everything works correctly again, but it's a cold morning. So it does sound like temperature is affecting something. I have not plugged forscan in yet (a job for later) but is there any advice on diagnosing the fault please?

All suggestions welcome 8)
